Impact Virginia--
A Baptist Home Repair Mission
July 11-July 17, 2004
The Impact Virginia crews, Phase Two of the Building Together
program, replaced doors, windows and roofs, built several handicapped
ramps, stairs and hand rails, put up siding and painted on 20 homes
for low income families and seniors. Imapct Virginia is a project
sponsored by the Baptist Mission Board of Virginia.
Their 375 volunteers from churches all over Virginia were housed
in the Orange County High School where breakfast and dinner were
served in the cafeteria. Local Churches will provided lunchs at
the work sites.

What Impact Did IMPACT VA have?
The
approximately 375 youth and adults who came to Orange County in
July did a lot of hard work. I could tell you how many roofs they
repaired or replaced (3); how many ramps they built or repaired
(4); how many step repairs, window repairs, door replacements,
floor repairs, etc. That was all a wonderful gift, and the families
for whom work was done loved every minute of it! “The kids
were a blessing, a true blessing”…that’s what
I heard over and over during the week of Impact VA. There were
20 families blessed by the presence of Impact VA volunteers.
So yes, some people are not so worried about leaks in their roof & some
have a safer and easier way to get into their house. In addition,
community was built and shared. Gifts were given and received.
Friendships were forged.
We send out our thanks to those at the Baptist Mission Board
who organized this huge event, and thanks to all the young people
and adults who responded with joy and enthusiasm. Thanks also to
all the local folks who worked to make this possible. It's an incredible
amount of work...housing, food, money for building materials, permits.
Thanks to everyone working together, it was a huge success! |
