Habitat Family Selection Process to Re-open

This is to let you know that the application process for OCHFH will re-open as of March 1, 2010. Below are the basic qualifications. If you want to apply, there will be two information meetings where you can ask questions, receive information, and pick up an application. Both will be held at the Orange Presbyterian Church, 162 West Main Street, Orange. You only need to attend one of these meetings.

Meetings will be held on:
Saturday, March 13 at 10 a.m.
  And on Monday, March 15th at 6:30 p.m.

There are 3 basic requirements:

1) Live in Orange County; and your total family income must fall between 25-50% of the area median income. The income chart is below:

  • Family of 1: $11,475 - $22,950
  • Family of 2: $13,125 - $26,250
  • Family of 3: $14,750 - $29,500
  • Family of 4: $16,400 - $32,800
  • Family of 5: $17,700 - $35,400
  • Family of 6: $19,025 - $38,050
  • Family of 7: $20,325 - $40,650
  • Family of 8: $21,650 - $43,300

In addition, you must be willing and able to repay a 0% interest mortgage. Extensive debts and unexplained poor credit will have a bearing on your ability to repay a mortgage.

2) Currently live in unsafe or overcrowded housing or pay more than 35% of your income in rent.

3) Be willing to partner with Habitat for Humanity:

  • paying a down payment of $500
  • completing sweat equity hours working on your house or the houses of others; 150 hours per each able adult.
  • attend classes offered by OCHFH on topics such as budgeting, home maintenance and home improvement.

Other requirements:
Must be discharged from bankruptcy at least one year.
Provide a recent credit report.
